Potato chips are terrific. They taste great, have a crunchy texture, and are the perfect snack for a night watching your favorite TV show.
The problem with potato chips is that it can be easy to lose track of how much you’ve eaten and load up on calories and fats.Â
This isn’t to say you can’t enjoy potato chips from time to time, but it would be helpful also to have some healthier alternatives to switch things up. With that in mind, let’s explore five healthy snack options.
1. Nut Mix
Any nut mix would be a fantastic alternative to chips.
Why?
Because nuts are one of the most nutrient dense foods you could eat. They are jam-packed with fiber, high-quality protein, heart-healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. Nuts are also a good source of complex carbs that digest more slowly and provide your body with a steady stream of energy.
Plus, nuts taste great raw or roasted with a bit of salt.
2. P-Nuff Crunch
P-Nuff Crunch is a healthy peanut puff snack that offers a fantastic protein dose.Â
P-nuff Crunch is the only product on the market that’s made from protein-rich peanuts, energy-boosting rice, and navy beans full of dietary fiber. The result is a healthy and nutritious alternative to chips.
The best part is, aside from having all-natural ingredients, P-Nuff Crunch has a nice crunchy texture and tastes great to satisfy your cravings!
3. Cucumber And Carrot Slices
Cucumbers and carrots might not seem all that special, but both vegetables taste great and make for healthy, high-fiber, and low-calorie snacks. Cucumbers almost entirely consist of water, which means they barely have any calories. Add some salt and apple cider vinegar, and you’ve got a yummy, healthy snack.
Carrots have a few more calories since they offer some natural sugars but are incredibly beneficial for us. They are also a great source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals.
Both veggies satisfy our cravings for a crunchy snack.
4. Homemade Sweet Potato Chips
If you’ve never tried sweet potato chips, you’re in for a treat. Making it right on the first try is a bit tricky, but once you get the recipe right, it’s a healthy and delicious alternative to potato chips. It mostly comes down to cutting the sweet potato in thin enough slices so it bakes well and ends up crispy.
As far as nutrition goes, sweet potato chips are rich in vitamins (such as B6 and C), minerals (such as iron), and complex carbs that provide a steady stream of energy.
5. Popcorn
Among the many healthy chip alternatives, popcorn is one of the best options. It offers the same satisfying crunch as potato chips but has half the calories and much fewer fats. Of course, you have to pick popcorn that isn’t drenched in butter and only has some salt on top.
The great thing about popcorn is the sheer volume. Each bite is light but takes a bit to chew and swallow, making you feel like you’re eating a lot. Plus, since popcorn takes longer to consume, you can enjoy them for a long time without consuming over 200-300 calories.Â
